Streamline Your Organic Sample Extractions

January 27, 2025

Sample Extractions for Organic Analyses have always been a prerequisite prior to analysis.

Accredited testing labs such as yours can use a variety of techniques, many of them traditional, slow and very labour intensive.  Microwave extraction has been available for several decades, however no manufacturer truly attempted meet your specific needs.

In consultation with experts in your field we have developed Milestone ETHOS X with a new fastEX-24 rotor to specifically address the challenges of today’s environmental laboratories.

The Milestone ETHOS X microwave lab station in combination with our fastEX-24 rotor offers your lab simultaneous extraction of 24 samples in 40 minutes with minimal solvent usage.

Our unique WeflonTM material provides homogeneous heating and facilitates accurate contact-less temperature monitoring of all vessels. Each vessel holds 100 mL disposable vials allowing you to extract 30 g samples while eliminating memory effects and clean up.

The benefit:
Higher throughput and easier handling results in both reduced cost and turnaround time for your lab.

BM-400 Mixer/Mill® (SPEX #8000M) - High-Energy Ball Mill

January 27, 2025

The Cole-Parmer SamplePrep BM-400 Mixer/Mill (SPEX #8000M), is a high-energy ball mill that grinds up to 0.2 - 10 grams of dry, brittle samples. The vial, which contains a sample and one or more balls, is shaken in a complex motion that combines back-and-forth swings with short lateral movements, each end of the vial describing a figure-8. The clamp's motion develops strong G-forces in the vial, to pulverize the toughest rocks, slags and ceramics.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Also called a shaker mill or high-energy ball mill.
  • Equipped with safety interlock system for operator protection.
  • For grinding samples in the 0.2 - 1.5 gram range or mixing up to 5 mL of sample.
  • Highly effective laboratory impact grinder and blender offering many advantages over other small mixers.
  • Holds three vials of 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) diameter or two vials of 3/4 in. (19.1 mm) diameter. Length of vials up to 21/4 in. (57.2 mm).
  • Push-button, resettable 30-minute timer on the 5100-115 Mixer/Mill.
  • Push-button, resettable 72-minute timer on the 5100-230 Mixer/Mill.
  • Reduces samples to analytical fineness and commonly used to blend samples with KBr for IR analysis.
  • Shock mounted motor enables bench top operation.
  • Steel housing protects the clamp mechanism and rugged construction ensures a long life of heavy work.
  • Wide selection of grinding and mixing vials available including polystyrene, polycarbonate, hardened steel, stainless steel, tungsten carbide, and agate.
